40 days until we hit the Barr Trail head and work out way up to the summit over the next 2 days. Last night, down in Austin Texas, I participated in my first 5K (walking) since 1998 and it educated me that I have a bit more work to do to prepare myself. The hip and leg did fine. The buttock and my calf of my operated leg were tired. My right ankle is also a bit sore today and slightly swollen. I also used trekking poles for the first time and learned a lesson; shoulders, traps, and pectoral muscles get tired too!!!! This was also a good test because there were some nice long inclines, ala the edge of the hill county!
This little 3.2 mile walk was a huge dose of reality! While I have lost 130 pounds to prepare for this adventure I need to shed as much more as I can (my goal 70 more) and best be bringing a Rocky like montage of training!
